Phil Hamilton is a hairy man, and has been for years. His signature long hair and beard are a regular topic of discussion whenever he visits -- because it gets longer and longer every time Phil stops by. Many have wondered what it would take for the man affectionately known as "Philthy" to cut his locks. Now we know.

Phil Hamilton recently had 11 inches of his hair chopped off. What used to hang down to the middle of his back, is now destined for Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hair pieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss. Phil explains:

"I have done many charity benefits, but the ones where children are involved tug at my heart the most. I want to give back and I always said when the day comes for a change,  I would only cut my hair  for a good cause.  If this helps a child gain even a little bit of their self-esteem back after suffering hair loss, that's what it's all about."

Additionally, while out performing shows throughout Texas and everywhere else, Hamilton will be encouraging fans to do the same, and even offer to cut off their hair to donate to Locks of Love. Keep track of all his upcoming shows on the official Phil Hamilton website.

I've known Phil for about 5 years now, and it's taken him just about all of that time to grow his signature look. His hair has become a part of who he is, and I know that this wasn't a painless . I hope this selfless act catches on, not only with Hamilton's fans, but with anyone who has hair to spare.

If you want to donate your hair to Locks of Love, you should keep a few things in mind. The hair you donate:

  • Must be at least 10 inches in length, clean and dry
  • Must be bundled in a ponytail or a braid
  • Cannot be bleached
  • Can be permed or dyed
  • If you don't have long hair, you can make monetary donations to Locks of Love. More details are available at the organization's official website.

I guarantee Phil has no regrets about chopping off his hair, and neither will you when you think about what a great cause Locks of Love is, helping injured and sick children feel better about themselves.

We'll be hearing more from Phil Hamilton soon, as he's got a new single going 'Dirty Love', which will be featured on his fourth CD due out later this year.
