RTX New Music Challenge: Sturgill Simpson vs. When in Rome

Even though he isn't from Texas, or Oklahoma for that matter; since May we've been playing Sturgill Simpson's Turtles all the Way Down on Radio Texas, LIVE! (because by God someone needs to be). Last month Simpson made his network television debut on Letterman, introducing America to Life of Sin.

Today, we put him up against '80s pop band, When in Rome, in an unprecedented RTX New vs. Old Music Challenge.

When in Rome: The Promise

When in Rome are an English new wave group, which originally consisted of vocalists Clive Farrington and Andrew Mann, and keyboards player Michael Floreale. They are best known for their 1988 single The Promise, which is this week's challenger.

Sturgill Simpson: The Promise

In this corner, the guy who has-everyone-wondering-where-in-the-hell-he-has-been-for-the-past-ten-years, Sturgill Simpson. His remake of an already great song, that you can find on his critically acclaimed album Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, will knock you on your butt. Give it a listen.
