When "Squelch," the next project from Jason Boland and the Stragglers, releases on Oct. 9, it'll be the eighth studio album from the legendary Red Dirt band in just under 16 years (in addition to two live albums).

It has been several weeks since this year's Memorial Day Weekend floods ravaged the small town of Wimberley, Texas, but the Texas/Red Dirt music scene hasn't forgotten about those Central Texas families who are still trying to rebuild their community.

It's West Texas' biggest Texas and Red Dirt music festival, and for those of us who have come to expect Crude Fest to bring out all the biggest stars and hottest up-and-coming acts, 2015 will not disappoint.

I've run into a dilemma recently... some friends who just moved to Texas from New York, are in need of some new music. Naturally, my inclination is to give them a taste of Texas Country, although they aren't big country fans. Or they aren't yet... muahaha.

It's about that time of year when you get to drive down that long stretch of Texas highway with your windows down, jamming none other than your favorite Texas artists. Lemme tell ya -- our playlist is long! So we've narrowed down a few of our favorites -- some off the beaten path, some on the straight and narrow:

If you ask people who attend Texas/Red Dirt concerts what they are there for, simply being in attendance to hear an artist's voice is often not high on the priority list. It's about the environment, the party and singing along with their favorite songs.

We've come to expect certain things when you listen to a new Jason Boland and the Stragglers CD over the past 15-plus years. Expect new music to stay true to the dancehall country music that made them Texas/Red Dirt music icons. Expect great lyrics, and fantastic musical arrangements that are incredibly easy to listen to. And, of course, you can expect to enjoy one of the best vocalists in country

Jason Boland was one of the guys that introduced me to the Texas, Red Dirt scene. He along with stalwarts named Pat, Charlie, Ragweed, Cory and Robert Earl really made it easy for me, a transplanted Texan, to fall in love with this music.
