Life on the road is not easy. Living in a van, traveling cross country, with dudes is not easy. Being is a band is taxing. Come February, Colin Dimeo and Ryan Johnson of American Aquarium will be hanging up their AA cleats to explore new ventures.

The band, Dimeo, and Johnson took to social media yesterday to assure fans that the departure was amicable.

Best of luck, guys!

Ryan Johnson posted to his Facebook:

Dear friends,
Over the past several years I, as well as my buddy @nothingwright have done our best to pour all of our free time and energy into recording and producing. We have had the privilege to work on some great projects with some talented artists and musicians. Starting this year I am going to shift my focus entirely on recording, engineering, mixing and producing in my home studio at @silkwormsound in Durham, NC! This means that I will be leaving @americanaquarium . For the record the split is an amicable one. Honestly, this is a scary transition but mostly an exhilarating one that I genuinely believe is going to be mutually beneficial for myself and for AA. I am extremely thankful for my time with AA and I wish the absolute best for them! Dudes, I love y'all! I want to thank all those who have supported me in innumerable ways over the years. The floors that were offered, the meals that were made, the random gifts, the rides, the plane tickets (looking at you @jlhardesty )...I literally could go on and on. Thank you so very much. Your kindness, hospitality and generosity has literally changed my life and supported my dream. I will do my best to adopt your kindness and give it to others. Thank you. Here's to following my bliss! #josephcampbell

P.S. My last two shows are Feb 3rd & 4th in Raleigh at Lincoln Theatre!!!

After nearly 4 years, I'll be moving on from @americanaquarium to pursue other interests. It's by far the hardest I've ever worked with a band, and I'm very proud of what we accomplished over those years. However, after close to a decade of touring, I'm ready to be home more and try my hand working behind the scenes. In February I will be joining my dear friend (and front lady of the first band I played in) @phoeberyan for a tour that will take us from Seattle to DC. After that, some much needed time off while I figure out exactly what's next. Thank you all for the support over the years, it's what allows us to do this. I wish the band all the best moving forward and look forward to their next record. @americanaquarium @nothingwright @team_corbin @ratamcclain @silkymcfly

Silver lining? The guys gave us some good news with the tough. American Aquarium will be heading back into the studio to record a new album this spring or summer. Their latest single "Northeast Texas Women," off Live at Terminal West, is out to Texas radio now.
