Rare Video ’99 Jason Boland & Stoney LaRue Live Wormy Dog Saloon
With Cross Canadian Ragweed reuniting a classic Red Dirt resurgence is certainly in play. With Ragweed's four sold out Boys From Oklahoma shows, it really feels like right now is prime opportunity for several amazing acts to be rediscovered by a new generation of music lovers.
Ragweed will bring Turnpike Troubadours, Mike McClure, The Great Divide, Jason Boland & The Stragglers and Stoney LaRue out for four nights.
This 25 year old video oughta get you ready for the show.
This is great for Straggler fans, and old Wormy Dog Saloon fans. If you haven't seen this 30-minute-long video from Jason Boland & The Stragglers at the famed Wormy Dog in Stillwater, OK., you are about to be very happy.
Like me, most of you immediately picture a person up front with a smartphone recording, but, y'all, we're wrong. Someone had a giant-ass camcorder in the front row on May 1st, 1999 at the Wormy Dog.
The boys kick off the set with "Whiskey River," and close with a skinny-cowboy named Stoney LaRue helping out on "Seven Spanish Angels." They round out the set with "Boys From Oklahoma," and "Folsom Prison Blues," and what would a '99 Straggler show be without "Telephone Romeo"?
Pure gold. Of course a big shoutout to YouTuber Ragan Parkerson for disregarding Boland's warning and getting this video on the internet for us.
"You video taping this? This better not end up on the internet." - Jason Boland
Two decades plus later Jason Boland & The Stragglers have cemented themselves among the best country bands ever assembled. Here's to 25 more years of making great country music,, boys.
