A New Record-Setting Roller Coaster is Now Coming To Six Flags

Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Texas has big plans for park visitors next year. In late 2025, the park confirmed plans for a new roller coaster, described as a 'dive coaster'. Six Flags said this new style of coaster would be 'record-breaking'.

A filing with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) dated January 22nd indicates that an 'amusement park structure' is proposed for a site with GPS coordinates in the same location as the park's former bobsled-style coaster, 'La Vibora.'

The filing indicates the proposed structure is planned to be 309 feet high, making this new coaster the tallest among the park's 15 roller coasters. While there is no name for this new coaster, the project name on the filing is going by 'Project Rubi 1002' for now.

If this is indeed a filing about the new dive coaster at Six Flags Over Texas it will become the 9th tallest roller coaster in the US according to Rollercoaster Fandom. For reference, the tallest coaster in the US stood at 456 feet at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. The coaster was called Kingda Ka but was permanently closed in November of 2024.

The tallest operational coaster in the US now is Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. This coaster tops out at 420 feet in height.

Six Flags Over Texas tells WFAA, they plan on releasing more information on the new coaster in 2026. According to the FAA filing, work on this project is scheduled to begin March 1st and continue through March of 2026.

Six Flags Over Texas has removed La Vibora, which opened in 1986 as The Bobsled, along with the looping coaster dubbed 'El Diablo'. At this time only a few concrete pillars and the station house remain of La Vibora and El Diablo will be dismantled in the coming months.
