Training camp is underway for many NFL teams, while college and high schools are gearing up for the upcoming season as well but you already know Texas is a CRAZED football state and we can't get enough of it so why not add more!

Now I know what you're thinking: between the NFL, XFL, USFL, college and high school football that's already out there, what else can be done? How about the return of INDOOR football?

The Arena Football League Announced Plans To Relaunch In 2024

According to a press release, back in February, the Arena Football League (AFL) has announced that it will be relaunching under new leadership with plans to formally return to the gridiron in 2024.

The league will resume operations under the stewardship of investment group F1 Sports & Entertainment, which purchased the rights to the AFL in January 2022. The league’s board of directors will include Commissioner Lee A. Hutton III who makes history as the First Black  Commissioner to Lead A Professional Sports League in the U.S.

The AFL will launch with 16 teams that will play 10 regular season games bbefore postseason play.

The AFL was originally founded in 1987 as a four-team league: the Pittsburgh Gladiators, Denver Dynamite, Washington Commandos, and Chicago Bruisers. The league expanded and was successful for years before shutting down several years back.

The league hasn't yet announced team names or ownership groups but they have announced what cities they are placing teams in.

3 Texas Cities Will Be Getting AFL Teams

Austin, San Antonio and Midland-Odessa are the 3 cities in Texas that will host AFL franchises. Austin had an AFL team formerly known as the Wranglers a few years ago while San Antonio gets another shot at pro football after several failed attempts by other leagues. The surprise is Midland-Odessa which has been named "West Texas" by the league.
