Did You Know The Most Delicious Type of Grapefruit Was Invented In Texas?
We all know that so many things have been invented here in the great state of Texas, but I will be honest and say that I had no idea that the Ruby Red Grapefruit is one of those things. I was reading an article created by Only in Your State about the delightful fruit that many people seem to love.
A normal grapefruit can give you sweet, tart or bitter flavors but lots of people like to add sugar or some sort of sweetener to help it taste better. You don’t need to add those same things to a Ruby Red Grapefruit as it already has a sweeter taste to it.
Ruby Red Grapefruit Isn’t a Fruit at All
Back in the day my grandparents had a gigantic grapefruit tree that often-provided breakfast for everyone getting together at their home. But I didn’t realize that grapefruit isn’t a fruit at all, it’s a pomelo and a sweet orange. Settlers first brought grapefruit seeds to Florida which made their way to South Texas. It was 1929 when the first Ruby Red Grapefruit orchard was found in South Texas.
Ruby Red Grapefruits are Used a Lot
While Ruby Red Grapefruits have been in Texas for almost 100 years now they are used for much more than just a snack or quick meal. They have been used to create alcohol, lotions and scented sprays.
If you haven’t had the chance to try a Ruby Red Grapefruit, you really need to eat one because you have been missing out.
