East Texas Man Bribes Child With $5 To Hide Alleged Assault

No one in Texas wants to hear about crimes being committed in our home state, but especially when it comes to the alleged sexual assault of a child.  More details are being shared by KETK regarding the Smith County Sheriff’s Office arresting 32-year-old Brandon Darrell Couey of Winona, Texas. 

Law enforcement first responded to a local emergency room where a girl was sexually assaulted. The suspect was Couey, who was identified as the victim’s babysitter’s husband. 

The Child Was Asked to Describe the Crime  

Officials asked that the child describe the horrible activities that took place to her and gave detailed information by using male and female anatomy drawings. Couey also gave the girl $5 for a book fair taking place and told the child to keep it a secret.  

The mother of the child reported that her daughter had come home with a book from the book fair, even though she hadn’t given her daughter any money.

Brandon Couey is in Custody 

An arrest warrant was issued, and Couey was arrested in the parking lot of a Winona school across the street from his home. His charges include aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14, and he is currently in custody in the Smith County Jail on a $700,000 bond.  

It’s so difficult to hear about these types of crimes. We are wishing nothing but the best for this child and her family. Remember that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
