(Longview, Texas) A Longview home recently had the chance to be named HGTV's 'Ugliest House in America' by HGTV's Retta. If named the 'Ugliest House in America', the Longview, Texas home will win a $150,000 home makeover and redesign by HGTV star Alison Victoria.

HGTV Brings 'Ugliest House in America' to Longview

The latest season of the show debuted July 20.  The first home featured on the show was in Longview. The 4,444 square foot, 3-bedroom and 5-bathroom home has been owned by Katie for a little over a year, according to the show. Katie believes she owns the ugliest house in America.

Katie welcomed Retta into her home and greeted her at her front door.  As the door opened, it creaked rather loudly. The first sign that this could be an 'ugly' home is the front door; it's held together by wood glue and duct tape. This is the setting of what was to be revealed in this episode.

Katie says that after purchasing the home, she's been trying to preserve the home's character by remodeling it. She quickly found out her remodel budget was going to be used to secure a glass brick wall, fix a couple of plumbing issues, and keep the bugs out.

During the show, Katie laughs at the condition of the home and what the previous homeowners left behind, plus the fact that they never updated anything.  One thing going for the house is that it has cold air conditioning!

A Tour Through One Very Unique Home

The rooms in this Longview home are every shade of green, except for the pink bathroom. Katie, fortunately, removed the pink carpet that once lined the bathroom floor. However, it still has a pink tub and matching toilet, padded wallpaper, and something in the wallpaper hanging from the ceiling. One of the unique things in the bathroom that remains is on the wall by the toilet - a wall-mounted phone!

Next, Katie showed off her combined bedroom and living room. This room featured more duct tape on the fireplace used to keep the wasps from entering the house. This room has lots of closets, but the doors will not remain closed. Attached to the room is a bathroom in yet another shade of green. This bathroom also features a wall-mounted phone and a built-in magazine rack by the toilet.

While this may all seem bad, the one upside to Katie's home in Longview is that it has more than 400 square feet of closet space. Retta mentioned that she wished she had that much closet space.

The tour of the 'Ugliest House In America' in Longview continued into the lounge/game room that features a built-in, wall-mounted 8-track player and hidden/recessed record player.

Katie mentioned that apparently the home inspector missed a bunch of things when inspecting the home, including the fact that the glass brick wall was showing signs of separating from the home. So how is Katie solving this problem? Duct tape!

At the end of the showing, Retta nicknamed this Longview home as the 'Seafoam Home And Other Greens'. Katie's home was just one of four homes being featured in the Frontier Region (Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona) and competing to be named the 'Ugliest House In America'. Ugly homes from Salado, Texas, and Camp Verde and Rimrock, Arizona were competing for the regional title.
