You got paid on Friday and here it is a couple of days later and you're looking at your bank account, wondering where your money went so quickly.

We can rightfully blame it on the economy. As the cost of living continues to soar in Texas, employee wages remain the same; we will have less money.

The fact of the matter is, that living in East Texas costs more than it did say a year ago.

The things that are eating away bank account:

  • housing - ownership or renting
  • insurance - auto, home, and even medical
  • utilities - cell phone, water, gas, electricity
  • gasoline
  • food - groceries or eating out

While interest rates may have fallen a bit, mortgages are still going up for those who have them. For those wanting to own a home, homeownership is still out of reach for them. Not to mention that insurance rates for homes and vehicles have increased because of natural disasters and theft.

Then there's the skyrocketing prices at the grocery store and restaurants. With so many things working against the working Texan these days it's hard. Many of us are close to living paycheck-to-paycheck, if we're not there already and we can forget about saving for a rainy day.
