Thieves are the worst, but I will say you have to be pretty brave to be a thief in Texas because people don’t take kindly to you taking their things around here. Over the past year and a half police had noticed lots of vehicle thefts taking place at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and they have identified the culprits.

According to WFAA, in total there were 52 vehicles stolen from the airport totaling around $5 million dollars in value. That means each of the vehicles they targeted were just under $100,000 in value.

Who Was Stealing the Vehicles at the DFW Airport?

It took law enforcement time to investigate the crimes and put the puzzle pieces together and identify the “Cuban auto theft group” as the ones responsible for the thefts. This group of criminals have hit airports across the country including in Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and Texas.

How Were the Vehicles Stolen at the DFW Airport?

The group would use a device that would reprogram key fobs and then would change the vehicle’s ID numbers, retitle them illegally, and often drive them over the border to Mexico.

How Long Has the DFW Airport Theft Investigation Been Going On?

The thefts started getting attention in February of 2023. Law enforcement has identified 14 alleged members of the auto theft group, three suspects have been arrested so far.

Fingers crossed the work done by law enforcement will lower the amount of vehicle theft taking place at the DFW airport moving forward. And I’m sure other Texas airports will be keeping a close eye on parking lot cameras moving forward.
