Country music icon and singer-songwriter Earl Thomas Conley has passed away at the age of 77.

Blake Shelton tweeted “My heart is absolutely destroyed today…I’m sad to report that Earl Thomas Conley passed away very early this morning. Earl was my all time favorite singer, hero and my friend. Prayers to his family. We will all miss you deeply my brother. Now go rest...”

Earl’s brother, Fred Conley, confirmed to the Tennessean that the singer, who had been in hospice care for several months and was suffering from a condition similar to dementia, passed away at 12:20AM on Wednesday, April 10th, in Nashville.

The three time ACM Male Vocalist of the Year nominee had an amazing run notching 18 No. 1 singles during the 1980s.
