‘Home’ Pat Green’s New Album is Out Today
It takes a special talent, combined with a level of popularity most of us will never come close to, to become a divisive force in a scene that you catapulted to relevance. And while the Pat Green haters have calmed down the last few years it's safe to assume, just about everyone who hates, or hated him, at one point loved him. A lot.
I've been getting crap from just about anybody, from every dimension — whether I'm making a record independently or for a record company, which is when people say I've sold out," the singer-songwriter tells Rolling Stone Country. "But I've never made a record that I wasn't totally invested in and that I didn't like the sound. When you make records with big producers or big record labels, those records are really bombastic — that's just the way they are going to sound. That was a wonderful experience, but making this next record, I'm still the same guy. I'm still writing most of the songs, still putting things together in an arrangement that I like…. I'm proud of this one. It feels organic.
“I don’t know if it’s a matter of any fans leaving me,” he says. “But I would say that I want to energize the fans that have stuck with me for so many years. There have been one and a half groups of high school kids graduate from college since I last put a record out. Those people are discovering younger artists such as William Clark Green and even Wade Bowen, so there’s plenty of people for me to introduce myself to out there.”
