Dear Tyler, Texas:

You're about to meet a man named Kevin Russell and his band called Shinyribs.

You're welcome.

No, but seriously. Friday night. Stanley's Famous Pit BBQ in Tyler. Red Dirt BBQ & Music Festival openers The Bigsbys will start things off and then Stanley's -- home of the best ribs in Texas -- will get its first-ever taste of Shinyribs from the ATX.

Kevin Russell, formerly of the alt-country band The Gourds out of Austin, is one of the most animated front men in the Texas music scene. His presence on stage is infectious. These guys know how to bring the show and party with you.

Kevin's voice -- and Shinyribs as a whole -- are a kickass mold of roots meets soul and blues with some honky tonk thrown in. He'll play the guitar, ukulele, mandolin and Lord knows what else while throwing down great tunes like "Sweet Potato," "Poor People's Store," "Bolshevik Sugarcane," and my favorite, "East TX Rust."

He's got roots in East Texas, but this is the first time Shinyribs will grace the Stanley's stage, and honestly, it's about time. This band will surely be a fixture after Friday night, as long as you're there.

The Bigsbys take the stage at 8 p.m. and Shinyribs will follow. Cover is only $8 at the door, so come out and support East Texas music.

Shinyribs: 'East TX Rust'

Shinyribs: 'Bolshevik Sugarcane'
