MUST HEAR: Jon Wolfe Covers George Strait No. 1 ‘It Ain’t Cool’
What else was Jon Wolfe gonna do? Not pay homage to his idol during his live album recording at Gruene Hall? Of course he was going to sing a George Strait song.
When Wolfe stopped by Radio Texas, LIVE! back in January we debuted his cover of “It Ain’t Cool,” which was recorded during his Live at Legendary Gruene Hall recording in November of 2018. Now the song is up for us all to enjoy anytime -- the new live album is out this Friday (February 21).
'It Ain’t Cool’ has been a favorite of mine going way back to when my wife Amber and I started dating,' Jon tells Whiskey Riff. 'We used to go to this local beer joint and drink beer and play sad country songs on the jukebox. For some reason ‘It Ain’t Cool’ pretty much became our favorite. When I had the chance to record a live at Gruene Hall album I knew I wanted to cover a Strait song because of his history there at Gruene Hall. And of course I knew which one it needed to be. What a night this was singing this song on the same stage where George Strait got his start.
"It Ain't Cool," written by Dean Dillon and Royce Porter, was released in 1986 and went on to become George Strait's 9th career No. 1 single. Jon Wolfe Live at the Legendary Gruene Hall will be released on Friday, February 21st.
