Sturgill Simpson Announces New Album & Anime Film, ‘Sound & Fury’

Don't box Sturgill Simpson in. Once christened by many as the savior of country music, Sturgill has proven time and time again that that is not where his aspirations lie.

Don't get me wrong, Sturgill can still write and moan a country song better than anyone. But an artist is what he is. Since his breakout album Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, he's enjoyed roles in television, movies, won a Grammy, busked the CMAs, made new fans, and made angry old fans. All the while just being true to himself.

His latest endeavor is gonna confuse a lot of folks, unless -- and hear me out on this -- we all just accept Sturg being Sturg. Stop trying to figure him out or label him; hop on board and enjoy the ride, man.

At Comic-Con over the weekend Simpson announced Sound & Fury, a new album and anime film that will be out this fall.

"We went in without any preconceived notions and came out with a really sleazy, steamy rock n roll record. It’s definitely my most psychedelic,” Sturgill said. “And also my heaviest. I had this idea that it’d be really cool to animate some of these songs, and we ended up with a futuristic, dystopian, post-apocalyptic, samurai film.”
