Recently my buddy, Brandon Rhyder called in to Radio Texas, LIVE! to catch up and debut some new music. He also gave us the scoop on his soon-to-be-released new album. Check out our conversation and "Haggard," easily one of my favorite new songs of 2013.

Rhyder's voice is unmistakable. His tenor and vibrato are something no one else could emulate -- like anyone would even try. To go with his signature sound he has a few signature songs, that include "Backroads," Let the Good Times Roll," and "Freeze Frame Time."

"[Those] are songs that put us on the map," Rhyder acknowledges. "Backroads is a song I almost didn't put on the 'Conviction' album. [But] Walt Wilkins told me 'No it's going to be on there.' Lo and behold it became a fan favorite."

In a career that has spanned over a decade, seven albums, the most recent being "Live at Billy Bobs," Rhyder has earned his position as mainstay in the Texas scene, and he has no plans to slow down.

It's now been a year and a half since his last project, and I'm not alone in wondering when a new album is coming. Well it looks like our wait will soon be rewarded.

"Haggard is going to be on the new record," says Rhyder. "We've got to get back in the studio and do some work, It's really getting time to get in there and nail down a few songs."

So be on the lookout for a new album before the end of the year.

When in comes to his music, you can never be sure to what to expect from Rhyder -- his songs surprise, they're different. But no matter what he does, it always tends to resonate well with listeners. And you can expect the same (the unexpected) from "Haggard."

Of the song, and his music in general, he told me, "I never want to come out with something that sounds like everything else. When it comes to loving music, I love music regardless of the genre and I think sometimes that comes through."

Press play on  "Haggard," the new single from Brandon Rhyder.
